7 years and 6 months old, FN, 9kg JR Terrier, euthyroid, with unilateral left thyroid follicular carcinoma with metastasis to the retropharyngeal lymph node.
Neoplastic thyroid gland size about 3.5-4 x2.5-3 cm, relatively mobile. Metastatic lymph node enlarged (about 8 x6cm) and vascularized.
Staging:
• 3 views thoracic radiographs, no evidence of metastasis.
• Ultrasound abdomen (including adrenals), no evidence of metastasis.
• Metastasis to the left retropharyngeal lymph node.
Complete surgical excision of the entire thyroid gland and the affected retropharyngeal lymph node performed.
Small lymph node adjacent to affected one was also removed and only reactive hyperplasia without evidence of metastasis.
No intra or post-operative complications encountered.
